The US Open
US Open Tennis Championship is the oldest tennis tournament, previously it was known as US National Championship when it was started in 1881 at New York City. Though it is still being held in NYC but it has changed the venue from the grass field to the hard DecoTurf. The matches at the US Open has a century long history of awesomeness, but there have been few matches that have changed the way the Tennis will be played in the World Arena in future. We have listed few of those to get you ready for the road to the US Open Finals.
Jimmy Connors b. Bjorn Borg ( Final 1976)
Borg was probably most talented player at that time or so people thought until the he played on the clay at the 1976 US Open. We played like a good player would at a final, but then came the tiebreakers, and he let it all slip through his fingers, and ultimately lost to somewhat an easy opponent. Had he won that final, it would have changed his career.
Novak Djokovic b. Roger Federer (Semi Final 2010)
These two in most sports critics’ mind are the greatest players of the modern era, an their clashes in different grand slams tell the same story. And this semi final is the epitome of in court rivalry which remains only on the courts. So in the final and Fifth set Roger was leading 5-3, and then miraculously Novak came back in the game with a back and some awesome back and fourth shots until we won the game with last set 5-7 to his favor. More significantly throughout whole match, both of them won games and sets by the slightest of margins.
Rafael Nadal b. Novak Djokovic (Final 2010)
Two back to back great matches are pretty difficult to pull off. But Novak did an amazing job to do so. In ability and talent Novak might have an edge over Nadal but that was not the case in this very match. At the very start Novak looked in good shape because of the previous victory over Roger. But things quickly got sore for Novak as after the second set he was completely being dominated by the brilliance of Nadal’s play. and he quickly won the net two round and emerged as victor of the US Open 2010.
Roger Federer b. Andre Agassi ( Quarter Final 2004)
This year was the time where one legend was on the decline from all the amazing stuff he had done. While other one was turning out be be an even bigger legend in the making. Federer previously won the Wimbledon in 2003, but most people were under the impression that he would be like other one hit wonders on Tennis that often rise to the occasion for a little surprise and upset. But that turned out to be exactly opposite has he became one of the greats at the game. This game was a great example of a see saw. In one set Agassi was trashing federer and in the another one he was being beaten badly. But ultimately though Federer was young, held the nerves and won the Match in the fifth set.
Pete Sampras b. Andre Agassi ( Final 1995)
The 1995 US Open Final turned out to be a turning point for the players. As the winner became the greatest tennis player Grand Slam player of all time, though Agassi was a top notch and talented player, but he got overshadowed by the brilliance of Pete Sampras. Though the match was slightly one sided but, Agassi had his moments in the match when he played some brilliant shots and won the only set. But it was too little too late for him to pull back. Later in the coming years they both became rivals at the game and spectators saw some amazing games of tennis.
